| After reading Manolo's latest post, I have continued to brainstorm about this game and community. I have noticed that he used the term "revolutionize this game." I have an idea.
As a community, we are currently in somewhat of 'dire straits.' I am sure this community has had periods like this on and off for a number of years now. Anyway, what this community does have amongst other gaming communities, is that almost everyone knows each other pretty well, if not very well. This can very well make things dull for some, but even very theatric for others. Even though there are also many other reasons for each individual to lose interest in an old game such as this, perhaps the drama the comes from everyone knowing each other possibly all too well should be minimized. So, my idea is that we should create a TA:K Council.
Now let us ALL brainstorm the pro's and con's of having such a revolutionized community development. If this game still means something to you, than let your voice be heard!
I for one, am more than willing to have a TA:K Council, even if I am not part of it is because a TA:K Council can do things not only such as settling disputes, but it could host events and can be diplomatic for this game.
As far as structure of the Council, I think that we as a community should first decide by voting with a deadline as far as whether or not we should create this. Also once the community gives this a go or not, the community can also vote who gets into the council and some of the major functions that it has the power to enact upon.
I for one think that the Council should have five members and everyone gets to vote for three candidates. The five candidates with the most votes gets into the Council.
These are just some of my ideas. Remember let your voice be heard! I am more than willing to retract this idea if there is an overwhelming number of support against it.

| I like the idea of having a council. It is a different approach of handling this community. (it does sound a bit like the walking dead lol) | |

| There must be some kind of current tech support to address the bugs and glitches in this game, else gamers will see it as broken and not fixable; in lieu they won't stay for long.
I think that must be the primary focus.
If we're looking for long term players, I think this has to happen.

| One of the most successful online gaming communities is the EtG community and much of its success comes due to its responsible and hyperactive council. Because of this, I support this very much! | |

| I can help too. Somebody get Rachy to come back! She\he did a great job recruiting and getting people to play more.
I think the best way will be on the FB page since it has 1000 likes. If we can all post periodically hopefully can get more traffic.

| @Double:
I think you are mostly right in the aspect of competition amongst other "mega" games that get played on a very large scale. But TA:K never had that kind of attention as I remember. Of course, having tech support would be awesome for the game, but I think we need to focus more on getting all of those "part-time players" who have already played this game to pick this game back up for 'nostalgic' reasons just as you and I have.
@BDRooter:
The Facebook page does have over 1000 likes and Rachy did an excellent job advertising this game. But I don't think Rachy is going to play again anytime soon. In the meantime, I would be more than willing to promote this game on that page as well. In fact, I am thinking about making this topic even more public and post it on the FB page right now. The more feedback the better!
@Everyone else:
I am gaining momentum on deciding to make a "poll" on whether or not the community wants a Council. The poll would need to contain just two selections; "yes" or "no" in answering the question of whether or not there should be a TA:K Council. I think that there would need to be 2/3's of TA:K population that answered the question "yes" in order to make something like this happen. Than the next step is for there to be Candidates!

If we're looking for long term players, I think this has to happen. This is the main reason I quit. The ability to cheat was built into the game..... That right there is the #1 reason I won't return. I could honestly look past the offmapping bug if the speedjacking issue were patched completely. I only view the forums because of the sense of community that I was once part of. That seems to have faded almost completely after not being around for months/years. I honestly don't even know if the guys I knew are still around and it would be nice to at least touch base with old "faces" so to speak. Maybe you guys could use this council to at least keep touch with everyone. Its a very bad feeling when you lose friends, even if you only knew them online. On a side note GOG.com has the rights to the Total Annihilation franchise. If anyone could still support it, it would be them.

| I completely understand the skepticism amongst the TA:K faithful.. not that there is a whole lot of them (TA:K players and those who may be skeptical about this). This game is very deflated these days. It is back to very low point in this old community. We can also all mention what Double and Clay brought up about this game having bugs, glitches and left with an option to be able to cheat. This certainly does not make this game seem very appealing. Due to what this game lacks in appeal, it is very unfortunate for many who do still have interest in this game that it is almost certain that this game will not get tech support. Also, as Double brought up, this game won't get long term players if this game does not get fixed. He is right, or at least for the most part as there are still a group of players who do still play whether or not this game has glitches or not. We can call these players "Die-Hard's." I also understand that they are not trying to discourage the leftover TA:K population, but rather inform them of the differences between TA:K and successful newer games. However, after giving this a lot of thought, I would like to continue to pursue perpetuating this community, maybe even assist in helping this community into some sort of Renaissance. Why would I pursue this? Honestly, this game still gives me a nostalgia once in a while and not to mention, even though I don't really feel like actually playing it these days, I really would love to participate one way or another. This can also keep me busy and not to mention get my mind off of the things in life that are negative. I am still going to pursue a TA:K Council and I am also fully prepared to not be disappointed if the community speaks up and says it does not want a Council. I think that if this community shows it's strength, than maybe it will one day get a little tech support. I understand that this is a very, very long shot, but what do any of us "Die-Hard's" have to lose other than eventually the interest in this game like everyone else has. A Council, in my opinion, will have more of a good affect on things rather than negative. I could go on and on about this, but I want to give everyone a chance to speak, so I am going to cut short this already long post here. | |
