Iron Plague Manual (?!) Empty
PostSubject: Iron Plague Manual (?!)   Iron Plague Manual (?!) EmptyMon Jan 21, 2013 3:45 am

Many months ago, there was a huge debate about if an Iron Plague manual truly exists or not. The truth is an Iron Plague manual exists, though I don't have it, and it can be proven by looking the Creonite unit's descriptions in TA Wiki.
The following info has been taken directly from TA Wiki.

---The Sage---

From the handbook (Page 8 ):

The ruler of Creon. This supreme leader is appointed every seven years on the basis of technical knowledge, wisdom and leadership. The Sage is housed in a contraption which serves as a conveyance and the means by which he builds and fights. In essence, The Sage is a steam-powered mechanoid with fearsome abilities. One hand contains a weapon array, the other an articulated tuning fork. This fork is used to "phase" structures.

---Wall---

From the handbook (Page 11):

Built by Sage and Mechanic.
Fixed Structure - No Weapons.

Sometimes a remarkably low-tech structure is the best way to slow oncoming hordes. The defensive walls of Creon are of sturdy construction. They're comprised of a lattice of iron reinforced with stone and mortar.

---Mana Refinery---

From the handbook (Page 10):

Built by Sage and Mechanic.
Fixed Structure - Resource-related - No Weapons.

The Mana Refinery underlines one of the many differences between Creon and the Four Realms of Darien. To the Creonites the gathering of mana is a purely industrial process as indicated by this strange device with this smoke-stack and churning mechanisms.

Note: Mana Refinery is the equivalent of a Lodestone for the Republic of Creon.

---Gatling Crossbow---

From the handbook (Page 13):

Built by Mechanic and Sage.
Fixed Structure - Defensive-Weapon: Rapid Fire Arrows.

This building has an array of giant crossbows attached to a giant ratcheting wheel. This rack rotates and reloads automatically. This dangerous device uses an ingenious structure of wheels and gears to take aim in any direction. The assembly is housed in a stout structure of mortar, stone and wood which is resistant to enemy attacks.

---Gate---

From the handbook (Page 11):

Built by The Sage and Mechanic.
Fixed structure - Defensive - No Weapons.

A gate with four equidistant posts and four pairs of doors. All doors open inward allowing units to move through from/to any cardinal direction.

---Smithy---

From the handbook (Page 11):

Built by The Sage, Mechanic and Chief Engineer
Fixed structure - Factory - No Weapons.

The Smithy is a busy industrial-looking building with smokestacks, and large billows. Its detailed operations are evident when the phasing of a unit is in progress. The Smithy is the point of origin for all of Creon's most basic infantry and mechanized creations.

It can be used to train the following units: Barnstormer, Automaton, Fire Wagon, Tortoise, Mechanic.

---Navy Yard---

From the handbook (Page 9):

Built by Sage and Mechanic.
Fixed structure - Factory - No Weapons.

An impressive example of Creonite engineering, the Navy Yard produces all the ships at Creon's disposal.

---Ghost of Garacaius---

From the handbook (Page 17):

(Not buildable - Chief Engineer must be present)
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapons: Supernatural sword & natural forces.

This is an impressive apparition of Creon's founder, the former Mage Emperor of Darien, Garacaius. His colossal spectral form still watches over his last and greatest creation, the Republic of Creon. If a Chief Engineer is present, and is sufficiently enlightened to the ways of logic and science, Garacaius will appear and do the bidding of the Sage. The enemies of Creon are wise to flee his approach. Few entities can rival this vengeful spirit for destructive power.

---Barnstormer---

From the handbook (Page 12):

Built by The Smithy
Flying unit - Reconaissance - No Weapons.

This is a tremendously useful advance scout for Creon. The Barnstormer is named for its passenger: daring pilots with little or no concern for their own well-being. The strict weight limitations of this flying machine do not allow for weaponry of any kind. It relies, rather, on swiftness to carry it away from danger.

Note: Barnstormer is known for being the most durable flying scout in the game, always in comparison with the Spyhawk, Bat, Gragoyle and Parrot units.

---Automaton---

From the handbook (Page 12):

Built by The Smithy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Twin Hammers.

When a Creonite solider dies, his tour of duty isn't over. The Republic of Creon expects them to serve every last day of their contract. In a typical logical fashion, the corpses of deceased soldiers are reanimated until their contract is met. The Automaton is a terrifying construct, being both mechanical and organic. The former soldier's body is enmeshed with mechanical constraints that control movement and rudimentary thought. These devices also enhance strength. The Automaton in incapable of feeling pain. He flails twin warhammers and will make short work of most opponents.

---Tortoise---

From the handbook (Page 12):

Built by The Smithy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Rotating Gun Turret.

Steam-powered tank with a simple, primitive gun. The Tortoise is topped by a tent-like conical turret sheathed with a heavy rivet iron. This houses a driver and artillery officer who operate this marvel of technology. A small but potent cannon provides an excellent field weapon which can swivel a full 360 degrees.

---Fire Wagon---

From the handbook (Page 13):

Built by Smithy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Blast of Flame.

Large wooden barrel with swiveling nozzle. Driver sits atop a hissing steam boiler in front. The boiler provides a source of propulsion for the vehicle and pressure for the gout of flame that blasts any nearby enemies. The Fire Wagon is quick to destroy all who mock its quaintness.

Note: Fire Wagons are slow-moving, slow-turning units which however have a very agile flame throwing pipe as a weapon that can strike both flying and land/water units.

---Mechanic---

From the handbook (Page 13):

Built by Smithy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapons: Taser & Freeze Beam.

The Mechanic is a useful unit to have on hand. Besides their well-known skills at repair and construction, a Mechanic is also a capable soldier.

---Academy---

From the handbook (Page 14):

Built by Mechanic and Chief Engineer
Fixed Structure - Factory - No Weapons.

This represents one of Creon's most powerful houses of government, the Ministry of Academia. As such, the Academy is a majestic, institutional building. And well it should be - some of Creon's most powerful machines and soldiery are phased here.

Academy can train the following units: Mechanic, Shock Trooper, Beast Rider, Neo Dragon, Chief Engineer

---Bomb Sprinkler---

From the handbook (Page 14):

Built by Mechanic.
Fixed Structure - Defensive - Weapon: Flings Explosives.

This is a complex, rotating device resembling an overgrown modern lawn sprinkler. The Bomb Sprinkler begins to spin and spew small but potent bombs when the enemy is near. For all its festive spinning, it has remarkable accuracy.

---Prismatic Mirror---

From the handbook (Page 10):

Built by Mechanic
Fixed Structure - Defensive - Weapon: Beam of light.

Exaggerated stories of Greek inventor Archimedes describe something akin to this. A parabolic mirror and lens array that rotates quickly to fire a hefty beam of searing light. This is a useful anti-air unit, although it's somewhat frail when subjected directly to the weapons of an angry foe.

---Neo-Dragon---

From the handbook (Page 15):

Built by Academy
Flying unit - Combat - Weapons: Blue Flame, Freezing Breath & Freezing Storm.

Always convinced that they can improve anything with science, the Neo Dragon is a mechanized winged creature. Creon has attempted to "improve" traditional dragons with this nightmarish invention. This "dragon" has three weapons much in the style of the more powerful Sacred Dragons.

---Shock Trooper---

From the handbook (Page 14):

Built by Academy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Lighting Rod.

The finest minds of Creon have captured and contained the electrical impulses which create lightning. Not only that, but they have found a means to hurl these energies at will, and with amazing accuracy. The Shock Trooper is the logical incarnation of this ability. He carries a sizeable storage device on his back and holds a large emitter for directing a sizzling bolt of energy at the enemy. Heavy head gear, insulating armor, gloves and boots keep the Shock Trooper insulated from both electrical currents and battery acid. These brave soldiers are said to suffer little upon their demise since they explode in a fiery conflagration.

---Beast Rider---

From the handbook (Page 15):

Built by Academy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Melee Tusk Attack & Cannon.

Ever logical and always willing to acknowledge the strengths of their enemy, the Beast Rider is a relatively recent addition to the arsenal of the Creon's might. This was formerly a weapon used by the kingdom of Jimarna during its protracted war with Creon. A large battle beast carries a skilled artillery specialist in a covered howdah. The effect of the Beast Rider is as psychological as it is practical. Enemies who are feint of heart have been known to flee in terror before these impressive creatures.

---Chief Engineer---

From the handbook (Page 16):

Built by Academy
Mobile unit - Construction & Combat - Weapon: Taser, Stun Beam & Cryo Pulse.

This mysterious, robed figure represents one of the highest offices to which a Creonite scientist can aspire. This exalted figure is considered the ultimate expression of thought and action. Far from being a lofty, distant intellectual, the Chief Engineer has both constructive and destructive uses. The Chief Engineer carries a large tuning fork which he uses to phase units. The fork also serves as a weapon that delivers a sonic blast.

Note: A Chief Engineer can attack with three different ways, each one draining a certain amount of his personal deposit of mana. His first attack is a lightning bolt, capable of hitting both flying and non-flying targets. His second attack is a freezing bolt, much like the respective attack of the Mechanic. His third attack is a green beam, capable of paralyzing enemy units for a long period of time.

Chief Engineer can produce the following units/buildings: Mana Amplifier, Smithy, Academy, Aerial Juggernaut

---Aerial Juggernaut---

From the handbook (Page 16):

Built by Chief Engineer.
Flying unit - Combat - Weapons: Bombs & arrows.

A truly awe-inspiring flying fortress. This immense multi-winged contraption is powered by the latest in steam technology. The resources and craftsmanship needed to build this behemoth device are incredibly intensive. The Aerial Juggernaut is an equal threat to land, sea and air targets.

---Iron Clad---

From the handbook (Page 9):

Built by Navy Yard.
Mobile unit - Ship - Weapon: Twin articulated cannons.

This is the lynchpin of Creon's navy. the Iron Clad is a steam-powered sea vessel with armored sides, and a large cylindrical turret. The cost of such a ship is relatively high, but well worth it when it pulverizing inferior wooden vessels.

---Submersible---

From the handbook (Page 9):

Built by Navy Yard.
Mobile unit - Ship - Weapon: Mortar.

A small pedal-powered craft that travels just under the surface - The Submersible is still visible to the enemy and susceptible to fire. Lets loose ye olde Mortar.

Note: The Submersibles can only attack non-flying units and they cannot transport any troops at all. They are actually aquatic catapults, so they can attack above obstacles, like walls or cliffs, but better be used against stationary targets only.

---Stern Wheeler---

From the handbook (Page 10):

Built by Navy Yard.
Mobile unit - Ship - Weapon: Armored gun turret.

Most of Creon is comprised of coastal regions and treacherous waterways, so this craft is essential to the maintenance of their empire. This steam vessel is covered with iron to protect its occupants and to lend it a menacing air. The Stern Wheeler is Creon's preferred transport for large numbers of troops.

Note: The Stern Wheeler is the only type of creonite ship that can attack both flying and ground/naval targets.

I think the above shows the IP manual really exists. Now, we have to find it somewhere. Wink

Iron Plague Manual (?!) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Iron Plague Manual (?!)   Iron Plague Manual (?!) EmptyMon Jan 21, 2013 10:06 pm

http://totalannihilation.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Creon

I think this is the site he is talking about...

Hey Arthan, the only thing I found is a torrent, with the following items:
TAK_IronPlague_Guide.pdf
TAK_IronPlague_Guide.sfv

Maybe a Sinal? xD
Not Sure.

Here is the torrent: http://www.btmon.com/Total_Annihilation_Kingdoms_Iron_Plague.torrent.html.

The truth is, I think the torrent is dead, and I can't download it... It says No Seeds and No Leechers...
Well, this is the only thing I found in Google and other searchers (I'm not a bad searcher in these searchers Smile), and maybe the only place that we can find it... And it is dead...

I guess, this is a bad thing. ^^'

OR:

There wasn't a Total Annihilation: Kingdoms: The Iron Plague Manual, because it isn't in the TA:K:TIP CD File. The torrent is lying and the Total Annihilation Wiki just made the descriptions (MADE, not copied from the manual). ;P

Conclusion: The question still remains standing: "Does the TA:K:The Iron Plague Manual really exists?"

Very Happy

Probably, the manual doesn't exists in digital form but in material form only.

As for the IP manual existence...
Quote :

From the handbook (Page x ):
The page of each info is posted. Furthermore, Cavedog were quite obsessed with TAK's cosmology and it is almost impossible NOT to create a decent IP manual, despite the financial problems of the company back then.

PostSubject: Yes, Virginia, there is a manual...   Iron Plague Manual (?!) EmptySat Feb 23, 2013 3:08 pm

Hi. I joined the forum just to answer this question.

Yes, there is an Iron Plague manual. I own two copies of IP (One boxed, one jewel case). The manual is the jewel case insert.

BTW, those descriptions in the TA Wiki were directly from me. I'm a big fan of the Creon. Very Happy My enthusiasm kind of dwindled after I wrote the Creon descriptions into the wiki. I remember doing some other work (Some other description for Aramon, maybe also Veruna) on that wiki but that was it.

Anyway, glad to see that there's still a vibrant community for TA:K.

If you have any more questions about the manual, let me know. Bye.

Awesome!
Please could you scan the manual and make it avaiable for download? xD
It should have many hidden things... Or not. ;P

Please do this favor for us. I'm/we are so curious... =)

Iron Plague Manual (?!) Empty
PostSubject: How do you post pictures?   Iron Plague Manual (?!) EmptySat Feb 23, 2013 4:40 pm

I'm glad that you brought that up - I was going to post a picture from the manual as proof (After all, I am a first-time poster and who wouldn't believe a first-time poster on something like the existence of the IP manual?) but the file attachment limit is "0 MB." I'm guessing that means no attachments. At any rate, it gave me a good excuse to plug in the scanner that I haven't used in umpteen million years and learn a thing or two about GIMP.

If anyone can give me a good tutorial as to how to convert pictures into a PDF file, I'd be happy to try. My skills are more then a bit rusty - 10-year olds could probably run rings around my web content creation skills.

Also, I'm guessing that I can place images right into posts if I link to them from elsewhere on the Internet - If that's the case, where I can add pictures straight onto the Internet without jumping through a lot of proverbial hoops?

Thanks for responding. Bye.

You could upload the manual .pdf at any file hosting site, like DataFileHost (http://www.datafilehost.com/), it's fast and simple, just post link here.

http://tinypic.com/ OR http://imageshake.us/.

Just take the direct link and paste it, then put [img][/img] around it. It will look like this:

Scanning of the rest of the manual shall began in earnest. Thank you for your advice.

PostSubject: Here's the rest (Of the Important Pages)   Iron Plague Manual (?!) EmptyTue Feb 26, 2013 8:38 pm

Here's the rest of the "important" pages - I'm sorry that I did not scan these earlier (Real Life can be such a mess...).

Instead of pictures right on the forum, I figured I'd just give you links to the pictures instead. The pictures are HUGE in size... Do with them as you like. I figure that some of you have waited long enough for them... Why not give you the largest, most detailed scans that I could create?

NOTE: These are the only "important" pages in the entire manual - The ones with pictures of units and descriptions of those units. The rest is all typical game manual boilerplate - How to install the game, troubleshooting & credits. I'm not terribly interested in scanning those pages as well since they don't contain pictures or lore or anything else that you can't see from any other game manual. Enjoy.

LINKS:

http:/ /i55.tinypic.com /ff4mtk.png
http:/ /i52.tinypic.com /2ahxw1g.png

P.S. I'm apparently "too new" to give you direct links, according to the forum software. Therefore, you'll have to copy and paste the links manually. Also, remove the spaces.

That's Awesome man!

But the pictures can't be accessed directly... So you should put [*img]imageherewithout*[/img], but I will do it to you:

Iron Plague Manual (?!) 2hqvza0
Iron Plague Manual (?!) 2lx704o
Iron Plague Manual (?!) 2sbx35l

Iron Plague Manual (?!) 2ahxw1g

Also included the first you posted here to make it like "result of all you did". If you can, please, scan the first again, thanks. =)
Well, nice to see that there is an Iron Plague Manual! Maybe you are the only that has it lol! Thanks for sharing.

Btw, does it say something special? New keys? Strategies? New Story? Something like that, or just setting TA:K up?

Iron Plague Manual (?!) Empty
PostSubject: I Agree to Re-Scan But Not Right Now   Iron Plague Manual (?!) EmptyWed Feb 27, 2013 8:11 pm

I'm glad that I've been able to fill in a missing piece of the TAK puzzle for so many.

I agree - My first scans weren't spectacular. What can I say? Practice makes perfect... Or, at least, better. Unfortunately, I've had a lousy day at work and need to decompress. Don't worry, though - I hate disappointing people. Watch for the better scans soon.

One aspect that might be of disappointment to people here is the rest of the IP manual. The IP manual isn't like TAK's manual "The Chronicles of Darien." Literally, I've scanned in the only worthwhile pages in the entire manual. The rest is just typical game manual boilerplate - Installation, controls, troubleshooting and credits.

Hey... Here's a thought... Perhaps we ought to make our own TA:K + IP manual? What's stopping us? And with all the new units still floating around (The Ultimate TA:K Pack), perhaps that could be something that the entire community could get together on? Just a thought.

I approve this idea, so I am going to help it, as far as I am not going to become phsycho again...
